Mrs. Mary “Mate” Higgins Rockwell formerly of Wellsville, died Nov. 14, 1974 in Miami, following a long illness. She was born in Wellsville Dec. 21,1892, a daughter of James M. and Mary Simon Higgins. In 1917 she married J. Hobart Rockwell, now Captain, UNS, retired. Mrs. Rockwell had lived in Miami for five years, having previously lived for 25 years in Rochester, and also in Brooklyn. She was a homemaker, and formerly taught music. Survivors, in addition to her husband, are five sons, Edward S. Rockwell of Rochester; Richard H. Rockwell of Lyons; Brig. Gen. James M. Rockwell of Alexandria, Va.; Joseph F. Rockwell of Pittsford; and Dr. Paul E. Rockwell, formerly of Wellsville; 29 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; one brother, Mark Higgins of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Embser Funeral Home Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A prayer service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. James Grimmer, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wellsville
