Joyce (LeFeber) Schuler Palmieri, 72, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on November 3, 2022. She was born to the late William and Reta LeFeber of Wellsville, NY on November 10, 1949. Upon graduation from Wellsville High School, Joyce attended Potsdam University and received a Bachelor of Science from the Crane School of Music. She would go on to earn her Master of Arts degree in Music from Edinboro University. Joyce began teaching in Guam and continued her teaching career in Erie, PA, Long Island, NY, and Charlotte, NC where she worked until she retired in 2014.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Palmieri, her children, Jeffrey Schuler (Johna) of Poquoson, VA, and Bethany Fawcett of Matthews, NC. She is also survived by her stepchildren Rachel Weber (David) of Portland, OR, and Mark Palmieri of Pittsburgh, PA. She has 5 grandchildren that she adored, William and Lillian Schuler, Olivia and Kendyll Fawcett, and Piper Palmieri. She is also survived by her two sisters Janet Cushing (Thomas) of Avon, NY, and Jill Leckie (Fred) of Lexington, KY, Uncle Ronald Lyttle (Carol) of Avon, NY, along with her niece, Emily Cosimano, and nephew, Ryan Cushing, and their families.
A lifelong teacher, Joyce directed music programs from middle school through the college level. The last 19 years of her career were spent at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, NC. Joyce had a unique ability to connect with her students. She was a teacher, mentor, counselor, and friend. Joyce had an incredible love for everyone and was passionate about teaching people to follow their own paths and chase their own dreams. She made it her mission to improve the lives of others. If you had the pleasure of being in her class, most likely it changed your life for the better. Ms. P, as her students called her, had a way of making everyone feel comfortable and loved.
Joyce was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with Jim. They shared many happy memories of their times in Aruba, Cabo, Iceland, and Alaska. She especially cherished the annual LeFeber beach trip with her extended family. When she wasn’t with family, she loved being with her friends, playing Bunco, book club, and soaking up any time she could spend with her grandchildren. Joyce immediately lit up any room she entered and made an impact on so many people. She was a joyful presence with her beautiful smile, bubbly personality, and contagious laughter. She loved her friends and family and filled her home with kindness. We will miss her greatly.

“Recently, I experienced one of those “small world” events. My husband, Rupert, and I have just moved to a senior apartment in Springfield, Massachusetts. As part of my “getting to know you” page, I mentioned that my Mariner Girl Scout troop had enjoyed a week in 1952 sailing Long Island Sound on the brigantine ”Yankee.” Shortly after, another resident came to me and said “Captain Johnson was my uncle.” This unlocked a flood of memories and has promoted further conversations with him. I found this photograph of Wellsville’s “land-locked sailors” and was dismayed to be able to identify only a few of my crew mates. Can anyone help? Marian Jacobs Brook, Class of ‘53”
