Arlouine L. Strassner, 100, of 296 Scott Avenue passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019, at Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on June 22, 1919, the daughter of German Immigrants, Henry and Rose Weihonig Liesegang. Arlouine worked for many years in the Dietary Department of Jones Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed playing bingo and was a former member of the Wellsville Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church and a former member of the Alter and Rosary Society. Survivors include three nephews, Dale “Skip” [Barb] Payne of Largo, FL., David “Babe” Payne of Wellsville and Doug [Holly] Payne of Brockport; several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her Parents, her brother Walter Liesegang, her beloved sister Virginia “Ginny” Payne, 2 nephews Daniel and Gary Payne and a great nephew David Payne. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, in the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery and memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception School.

Virginia E. Vossler Scott, age 94, formerly of Petrolia, passed away on Friday (Nov. 21, 2014) at the Highland Health Care Center. She was born on Dec. 29, 1919, in Wellsville, to Johann and Armena (Kimble) Vossler. Virginia was a lifelong resident of the Wellsville area who graduated from Wellsville Central High School in 1935. She retired from the Wellsville DailyReporter in the early 1980s as a proofreader. Virginia was a member of the First Trinity Lutheran Church and the Dorcas Guild of Wellsville and The Business and Professional Women and was a life member of the Petrolia Fire Department Auxiliary. She loved animals and was an excellent cook who enjoyed entertaining with her delicious meals and scrumptious pies. Virginia delivered Meals on Wheels and did not hesitate to help her friends and neighbors. She was an asset to her Petrolia Community and will be sadly missed. She is survived by 3 sons, Jerry E. Jensen of Arizona, Garry W. Scott of Wellsville, and James D. (Susan) Scott of Bolivar; 3 grandchildren, Jody (Mike) Stone of Arizona, Marti Jensen of Arizona, and Adam (Jennifer) Scott of Bolivar; 3 great-grandchildren, Zachery Jensen of Arizona, Kennedy Scott of Bolivar, and Isaac Scott of Bolivar; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Josephine (Vossler) McPheters in 1971; a brother, Warren R. Vossler in 1995; and a granddaughter, Angela Scott Pounds in 2008. At Virginia’s request, there will be a private graveside service in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the Allegany County SPCA.

MableLee E. Runzo, 98, of Wellsville, N.Y., went to be with her Lord Jesus on Friday (Feb. 16, 2018). Born Oct. 22, 1919, in Wellsville, she was the daughter of Alfred S. and Grace Hull McClure. On Dec. 8, 1939, in the Christian Temple, Wellsville, she married Arthur D. Runzo, who predeceased her on July 30, 2006. A graduate of Wellsville High School, she and her husband owned and operated the Fred D. Rice Music House on Main Street in Wellsville for 36 years. She owned and operated her Jody Ann Doll Hospital for several years in the Wellsville area. She was a member of the Crosstown Christian and Missionary Alliance in Wellsville and a past president of the Monday Club. MableLee was a dedicated homemaker to her beloved husband and their family. Surviving are three children, Ann (Tom) Koch of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., J. Donald (Jane) Runzo of McGaheysville, Va., and Teresa “Bunny” (Don) Davis of Amherst, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Runzo of Monroe, LA; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and four nieces. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by, a son, Arthur D. Runzo, II; a brother, Kenneth R. McClure; a sister, Lois M. Gent; and a nephew, Robert J. McClure. Friends may call Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 from 6-8 p.m., at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home, Wellsville, N.Y., where Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Gene Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville.

Mildred Lovel of Westfield, PA Age 85, formerly of R.R.#1, Sabinsville, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005. Born September 28, 1919, in Alma, NY, she was the daughter of Glenn H. and Ruth Ann Hathaway Horton. On April 23, 1939, in Belmont, NY, she married John E. Lovel, who predeceased her on August 14, 2000. Mrs. Lovel and her husband owned and operated a farm in Clymer Twp. for many years. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Nancy Lovel, Sabinsville; a daughter, Maureen (Leonard) Snyder, Fayetteville, Pa.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, John E. Lovel, Jr., in 1999; three brothers; and two sisters. Private Committal Services will be held in the Lovel Cemetery, Clymer Twp. Kathryn “Kay” Hauser Genung, 97, passed away on October 17, 2017 in Fremont. She was born on April 12, 1920 in Loucks Mills, Pa., the daughter of the late Carl Frederick and Edna Louisa (Waterman) Hauser. On July 25, 1941 in Buffalo, she marred Arthur “Art” Genung, who predeceased her in 1991. Kathryn was a 1937 graduate of Wellsville High School, and a 1940 graduate of Edward J. Meyer Memorial Hospital, School of Nursing in Buffalo. She had a long and full nursing career spanning employment at Dr. Elmore G. Harkness’ office in Wellsville, St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, she was the Administrator of Our Friendly Home in Canisteo, a Nurse at Hamilton College in Clinton, a New York State Public Health Nurse in Utica, and was a Nursing Supervisor at Beulah Home, and Matilda Brown Home in Oakland, Calif. She retired in 1985, and she and Art traveled the lower 48 states visiting friends and family until Art’s death in 1991. She later married Edward Moscardini, who predeceased her in 2005. She is survived by three children, Marilyn Khalaji, Irene Genung, and Wayne (Cindy) Genung, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to parents and husbands, she was predeceased by two children, Nancy Lee in 1953, Merton in 2004, and her brother Berwyn J. Hauser of Wellsville in 2010. A private graveside service is being planned at Valley Brook Cemetery in Andover, NY, with Pastor Christian Mattison presiding.

Orval A. ROSSMAN, 98, of Wellsville, NY, died Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in his home. Born February 10, 1920, in the Town of Ward, he was the son of George and Jennie Bush Rossman. On April 4, 1943, in Wellsville, he married the former Ruth Saunders, who survives. A World War II Veteran, he served honorably with the US Army. He was employed by the US Atomic Energy Commission in Nevada and later by Air Preheater in Wellsville for 32 years. He was also a self-employed farmer and carpenter. Orval was a gifted artist, musician, and poet. He was a member of the Christian Temple, now Grace United Church in Wellsville, Morrison B. Hayes American Legion Post #702 in Wellsville, and a 50-year member of the Wellsville Masonic Lodge. Surviving besides his wife of seventy-five years, Ruth, are: three sons, G. David (Josefa “Pepa”) Rossman of Duncan, SC, Danny (Denise) Rossman of Arkport, and Gary Rossman of Hilton, NY; five grandchildren, Paul (Barbara Bernard) Rossman, Michael (Corey Scheidegger) Rossman, Eric (Christine) Rossman, Leslie (Rev. Mark) Ball, and Matthew (Jo) Rossman; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Gregg Rossman on July 5, 1980; and three sisters, Gladys Johnson, Theda Wightman, and Lila Beagle. Friends may call Friday, March 16, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home, Wellsville, NY, where Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Military Rites will be accorded in the funeral home by members of the Wellsville American Legion. Ruth Irene Bissell Wolf passed away peacefully Dec. 12, 2017. She was born in Wellsville. She was predeceased by her parents, Merl and Margaret Perry Bissell; husband, Francis J. (Foxy) Wolf; sister, Beatrice Hettenbaugh; brothers, Howard, Harold, Paul, Frederick and Carl Bissell; and son-in-law, James Scott. She is survived by her children, Mary Wolf Scott of Brockport, N.Y., John (Connie) Wolf of Fairport, N.Y., and Paul (Karen) Wolf of Cedar Grove, N.J.; grandchildren, Carrie (Gus) Carpenito, James Scott, Kelly (Jared) McLaughlin, Sara (Timothy) Stafford, Michael (Alicia) Wolf and Patrick Wolf; great-grandchildren, Dominic and Jake Carpenito, Connor McLaughlin and Giovanna Wolf; brother, Donald (Joyce) Bissell, sister-in-law, Evelyn Bissell; nieces and nephews; special friend, Jewell Hayes; her “Y Friends,”; and staff and caregivers at Brookdale in Brockport. A 1944 graduate of (SUNY) Geneseo Normal School, Mrs. Wolf was an elementary school teacher in Norwich, Freeport and South New Berlin, N.Y., and delighted in teaching generations of young learners. She continued to share her special interest in teaching reading into retirement, becoming one of the longest serving members with the Chenango County Literacy Volunteers. Ruth remained active into her early nineties, participating in swimming and water aerobics at the Norwich YMCA and was an avid golfer and bowler. She provided care and a loving home to a series of rescued dogs. She enjoyed her family and for many years hosted the Bissell Family Reunion at her home. Ruth enjoyed traveling, beginning with family tenting trips across Canada and the western United States, cruises and tours to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, North Africa and South America. Stranded aboard a tramp steamer on a sand bar off the coast of Guyana in 1976, she had to contact her school principal via ship-to-shore radio to notify him that she would be missing the first few days of the school year. A memorial service and celebration of her life is being planned for April 9, 2018 on what would have been Ruth’s 100th birthday. Eileen Ardell “Pat” Palmatier, 98, of 4192B Bolivar Road, died on Saturday (Feb. 4, 2017) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. She was born Jan. 25, 1919, in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Levi B. and Susan Emily (Cunningham) Ellis. On Sept. 5, 1943, in Louisiana, she married Donald Palmatier, who predeceased her on June 23, 2003. Pat was a 1937 graduate of Wellsville High School, where she played basketball and softball. She was a longtime resident of Field Street in Wellsville prior to moving to Manor Hills. She was first employed at Reuning Bakery in Wellsville and during WW II she worked at Bell Aircraft in Buffalo. She also worked at the Airport Holiday Inn in Buffalo and later she retired from the housekeeping department of Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville after 16 years. She was a member of the Ladies Home Bureau and the VFW Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler, seamstress and Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed playing cards. She loved sports, puzzles, games and playing by the rules, at least when people were paying attention. Whenever the mood hit, she enjoyed singing, dancing and whistling. She had a legendary whistle that could be heard throughout the neighborhood; which meant, “Get home”! Through life’s up and downs, she always kept up her courage and has been an inspiration to all. She is survived by one daughter, Susan (Dale) Zanders of Wellsville; seven grandchildren, Debbie Wright, Steve Burrell, Mike Burrell, Wayne Palmatier, David Palmatier, Marty Reese and Jessica Moerler; 15 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Gerald Reese; several nieces and nephews and she will be missed by her many special friends at Manor Hills. She was predeceased by two children, Dana Palmatier and Jo Ann Palmatier; one granddaughter, Dawn Farrell; two brothers, Richard Ellis and George “Ed” Ellis; two sisters, Nellie “Leonette” Gorton and Emily “Deorwyn” Forgarty; and a sister-in-law, Louise O’Connor. A memorial service is being planned for March and the date and time will announced. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Please consider memorial donations to the Hart Comfort House.

Glenn Edward Hornburg, 91, of 2938 Truax Road passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Highland Park Rehabilitation Center. He was born on June 8, 1920 in Wellsville to Edward and A. Belle Behrens Hornburg. On April 9, 1940 in Wellsville he married Gladys M. Flint who survives. Glenn graduated from Wellsville High School in 1937 and went to work at Moore Steam Turbine until he entered the US Army during World War II. After the war he owned and operated Hornburg’s Meat Market with his father for 5 years. Glenn then returned to the then Worthington where he retired from in 1982 after 40 years of service. In his retirement Glenn enjoyed making wood crafts from his home work shop, cross word puzzles and the New York Yankee’s. He was an affiliate of the Wellsville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Wellsville. Surviving besides his wife; a son Gary (Debbie) Hornburg of Ashland, KY., and a daughter, Janice (George) Givens of Andover; 3 grandchildren, Maribeth (Shannon) Hausey of Ashland, KY., Dennis Givens of Andover and Christi Schweigart of Wellsville; 3 great grandchildren, Danielle Armfield, Michelle Schweigart and Marc Givens all of Andover. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Glenn was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Raymond T.J. Hornburg; 2 sisters, Beulah Stryker and Alma D. Hornburg. Friends are invited to call on Thursday, November 10, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and on Friday from noon to 1 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. His funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday in the Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Brady presiding. Clara Lehman Murphy, age 95, of 86 Howard Street passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Roswell Park in Buffalo. She was born on September 13, 1919 in Wellsville to Frederick George and Florence Hadsell Lehman. On May 9, 1942 in the Immaculate Conception Church Rectory she married George Connell Murphy who predeceased her on July 4, 1990. Clara graduated from Wellsville High School in 1937 and had lived in Geneva and in Lansing, Michigan. She began her banking career with Citizens Nation Bank in Wellsville and retired from Key Bank as the Assistant Cashier/ Bookkeeping Supervisor after 34 years of service. While working at the bank she earned an Associate Degree from Bryant and Stratton. Clara was a member of the Brookside Wesleyan Church who enjoyed crafts, flower gardening, traveling, and especially her grand children and great grand children. Survivors include her son Frederick E. (Kathleen) Murphy of Salamanca and her 3 daughters Delores M. (Jerry) Knapp of Wellsville, Leilani M. (Roger) Bentley of Scio and Sheryl J. (William Clay) Murphy of Aurora Colorado; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; a brother in law Michael (Sally) Murphy of Presho as well as several nieces and nephews. Clara was predeceased by her parents and her husband. Friends are invited to call today, Thursday May 21, 2015, from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. Clara’s funeral service will be held on Friday in the funeral home at 11 am with Reverend Robin George presiding. Margaret Ethlene Shear Hollod, 95, formerly of 47 Elm Street, died Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the Wellsville Manor Nursing Home after years of residence there. She was born in the Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, NY on February 18, 1917 the daughter Fredrick Christopher and Halle (Rogers) Shear. Margaret was the second youngest of 10 children and all of her brothers and sisters are deceased. She lived her entire life in Wellsville. Margaret, along with many of her siblings, attended a one room elementary school on the Bolivar Road near Brimmer Brook. The school was located in the front yard near the family home. She graduated from the Wellsville High School in 1937. After graduating from the Rochester Business Institute in 1938, she worked at the Empire Gas and Fuel Office on Main Street in Wellsville and later she enjoyed working for several years at the Air Pre-Heater Corporation on the Andover Road. Margaret was involved in many organizations in the Wellsville Community and volunteered for activities to support her family and others. She was a member of the Wellsville Country Club where she played bridge and golf. She was a charter member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority joining in 1940. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church most all of her married life. The love of her life was John (Yonk) Hollod. They met in Wellsville in the mid 30’s when John arrived from Olean, NY to stay with his brothers Pete and Mike Hollod. They married on November 22, 1941 at the Immaculate Conception by Father Tracey. Margaret and Yonk celebrated over 61 years of marriage until John passed away in September 10, 2002. Margaret had many friends in Wellsville but some of her fondest memories were the times she spent with her siblings growing up and later living in Wellsville. Margaret was a loving and devoted mother to her three children, who survive her, Dennis Hollod of Willing, NY, Gregory Hollod, Ph.D. of Atlanta, Ga. and Kimberly (Brook) Tolman of College Station, TX. There are five grandchildren Alexis (Ryan) Tolman-Davis, Lauren Tolman and Margaret Jean Tolman and Christopher and Andrew (Laura) Hollod. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Immaculate Conception Church, 36 Maple Avenue in Wellsville with Rev. Thomas Roman as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the David A. Howe Public Library or the Immaculate Conception School.

Esther M. Martin, 93, of Osborne Street, passed away on Wednesday (July 3, 2013) at the Highland Health Care Center. She was born on Jan. 9, 1920, in Munson, Pa., to Carl and Alice Shaw Dahlgren. Esther was a longtime resident of Wellsville who graduated from Wellsville High School in 1937. She had worked for the former Wee Spot Restaurant and for the former Ralph Benjamin Auto Repair, both of Wellsville. In 1985, she retired from L.C. Whitford Company after 20 years of service as the payroll clerk. Esther had been a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Wellsville, was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Gant of Masaryktown, Fla., Patricia (Clair) Golish of Jamestown, and Jeanne Glover of Andover; two sons, Richard (Joan) Martin of Dover, N.H., and John (Connie) Martin of Springhill, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two grandsons, William Glover and Scott Golish; a granddaughter, Kimberly Carrick; a great-grandson, Tyler Glover; a brother, Willis Dahlgren; a sister, Beverly Pauletta; and two sons-in-law, John Gant and Ronald “Spud” Glover. Friends are invited to call on Sunday (July 7, 2013) from 7-9 p.m. at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. Her funeral service will take place on Monday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Richard Helms presiding. Dorris Seldowitz-Lawrence,Rochester: Born in Wellsville, NY, formerly of Lake Worth, FL and residing in Rochester, NY with her son and daughter-in-law, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 29, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband, Jerome K. Lawrence, parents Isadore and Anna Seldowitz, mother- and father-in-law Karl and Rose Lawrence, and her siblings Sadie Seldowitz, Alice Miller, Dr. Meyer Seldon, and Jacob Seldowitz. She is survived by her loving children Charlene (Keith) Lawrence-Ryan, Linda (Jerry) Carr, and Dr. David (Debbie) Lawrence, as well as her grandchildren Amy (Dr. Christopher) Tardif, Karin (Dr. Richard) Kurnot, Stephanie (Donald) Discepolo, Denise Smith, Shahin Roy, and Roshanna Lawrence. She leaves behind nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was a respected and dedicated member of Temple Beth Tikvah, Lake Worth, FL and served as president of the Temple Beth Tikvah Singles’ Group, a volunteer at a children’s daycare, and lay clergy at a senior center, both located in Lake Worth, FL. She was an accomplished artist as well as a real estate agent. A private graveside service at the family’s request will be held at Britton Road Cemetery. STOUT, Byrl M., former resident of Zephyrhills, died at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Michael Laslavic of Collier-ville, TN, on August 6, 2012. Byrl was born on February 24, 1919, to Lyle G. and Edith Francisco Stout in Hallsport, Town of Willing, NY. He married Elizabeth Sawyer of Port Allegany, PA, with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage in July. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James (Kathy) Stout of Shoreline, WA; a son, Mark Stout (Margaret) of Woodbridge, VA; his daughter, Martha (Michael) Laslavic of Collierville, TN; and three grandsons, Alex (Kenna) Laslavic of San Francisco, CA, Nicholas Laslavic of Collierville, TN, and David Stout of Wood-bridge, VA. Through Kathy, a very special little girl named Hailey Kate became a great-granddaughter who delighted Byrl. Byrl is also survived by brothers, Neil, Gary (May), and Galen (Betsey); a sister, Lorna (John) Mowatt; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Stout. He was predeceased by two brothers, Bruce and Ellis, and a sister, Evelyn Stout Fuess. He had a close and loving relationship with his many nieces and nephews. Byrl was a graduate of Alfred University, School of Ceramics, and spent his thirty-eight year career with Pittsburgh Corning Corporation, retiring to Zephyrhills, FL, in 1979, where they lived until 2012. Byrl was an avid outdoors-man and an enthusiastic golfer. He enjoyed family gatherings which were frequent and valued his many long friendships. Over the years, he was active in Rotary, Port Allegany Masonic Lodge, his church, and varying civic organizations. He was vice-president of manufacturing of Pittsburgh Corning and his work took the family from Port Allegany to the Pittsburgh area and Sedalia, MO, prior to retirement. He served in the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II, Byrl is a member of United Methodist Church in Port Allegany, PA, and an Affiliate Member of First United Methodist Church in Zephyrhills, FL. The family extends its appreciation of the loving care provided by Baptist Home Care and Hospice and the spiritual support of the Reverend Lynda Ernst of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Collierville. A memorial service is planned for August 17 at the First United Methodist Church in Zephyrhills, with Dr. Kenneth Minton officiating.

Minnie Silverio, 94, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away on Dec. 2, 2014, at the Warner Center for Caring after an extended illness. She was born to Alice and Thomas Frungillo on April 30, 1920, in Wellsville, N.Y., where she later met and married the love of her life Mario Silverio on May, 22, 1943. A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Silverio was involved with church and school associations and active in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She worked as a bookkeeper and later as an office manager for a dental practice. Minnie was an avid bridge player and enjoyed bowling, reading, golf and playing her organ. She and Mario moved to Fernandina Beach in 2003. She was preceded in death by her loving husband earlier this year. She is survived by her children, Ron (Chip) Silverio of Amherst, N.Y., Tom (Susan) Silverio of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Maryanne (Jim) McKenzie of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Michael Silverio (Yvonne), Rochester, N.Y. She was blessed with five grandchildren, David, Brian, Erin, Chris and Alyssa and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Marie Herrmann, Al Frungillo, Vince Frungillo, Alita Weaver and Pat Holcomb. Minnie was a member of St. Michael’s Church. She will be buried with her husband at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Belmont, N.Y., at a later date. The family suggests memorials be offered to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.

Ruth Angood, of St. Petersburg, originally from Allegany, NY, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 15, 2009, at Eagle Lake Rehab & Care Center, under Hospice care. She was born on April 16, 1919 to Floyd A. and Eva M. Manning Crowner in Wellsville, NY. On April 20, 1940 she was married to Edward G. at her parent’s home in Wellsville, NY. She was a graduate of Wellsville High School and the Culver Academy School of Beauty in Rochester, NY. She owned and operated shops in Hornell and Wellsville, where she retired after 40 years as a beautician. She was a very caring person and loved children. She and her husband were known to bring foster children from the Potter County Childrens’ Home in Pennsylvania to spend the weekend at their home and cared for them and helped raise several other children. Her husband , as a joke, said that whenever there was a vacant room in their home to use for his hobbies it would soon be filled with a child that needed them. She took her mother in and cared for her for over 20 years. She enjoyed good times, music and loved to dance. She painted, liked to go camping, played the piano, organ and the violin. She also loved tea pots and had a memorable collection of them. In later years she especially enjoyed attending the First Presbyterian Church in Allegany, where she lived and later left to join her daughter in Florida. She enjoyed the church “family” where everyone always looked out for one another. She is survived by her loving daughter, Mary (Leslie) Stein, who took care of her each day and was by her side when she went to be with the Lord. She is also survived by a grandson, SMSgt Daniel E. (Jennifer) Stein of Germany, two great-granddaughters, Samantha and Kaitlin Stein, granddaughter, Ruth Ann Wright of Berkley, CA, grandson, Donald Wright of St. Petersburg, Fl and two sisters, Ethel M. Crowner (Fred) Kelley of Brooksville, FL and Norma A. Crowner (Gene) Cedruly of Wellsville, NY., nieces, Betty J. Masters Cary and Rebecca Kelley (Robert) Fanton both of Wellsville, NY, Nora Kelley Sample of Brooksville, FL, nephews, Allen J. (Victoria) Kelley of Sedona, AZ, Daniel F. (Tootie) Kennedy of Sarasota, FL, Michael (Renee) Kennedy of Lexington, KY, Fred C. III (Tracy) Kelley of Wellsville and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Besides her husband, Edward, of 45 years, she was preceded by her parents and three sisters, Theda V. Crowner, Iva M. Masters Minor, Lina I. Kennedy Liebermann, daughter, Myrtle Angood Wright, a brother-in law, Fred C. Kelley and a loving niece, Regina Ann Cedruly. DR. FORDYCE L.HOWE FT. WAYNE, Ind. — Dr. Fordyce L. Howe, a native of Wellsville, died Oct. 20 at Park View Memorial Hospital. A Ft. Wayne physician for 30 years, he was born Mar. 1, 1920 in Wellsville, the son of Albert and Martha Howe of Oak St. He was former president of Parkview Memorial Hospital Medical Staff and was a member of the County Board of Health Merit Board. He had graduated from Wellsville High School and had been an Eagle Scout here. He had graduated from the University of Rochester and had belonged to Masonic organizations. He was a member of Fort Wayne-Allen County Medical Society and the Family and Planning and Well Baby Clinic and was a Federal Aviation Administration examiner. He received his M.D. from the New York State University Medical School and during World War II served in the Navy Medical Corps. Survivors include his wife, Lore; two daughters, Eleanor of Boston, Mass, and Mrs. Susanne Harker of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Maynard of Honor, Mich., and a sister, Mrs. Carolyn DeGroff of South Coventry, Conn.

Catherine was a Registered Nurse who managed her husband’s medical office. She was an avid reader who loved to sew and write. Frank E. Jensen, 92, resident of Ocala, FL, went to be with Jesus his Savior on Monday, February 27, 2012. He was born on February 3, 1920 in Chippawa Falls, WI to Danish immigrants Hans and Sophia Bengsten Jensen. With his family, he moved to Wellsville, NY, in March 1920. Frank graduated with honors from Wellsville Central Schools in 1937. Soon after graduating, he was employed by Bradley Producing Corporation and later became president of the company, retiring in October 1994. While living in Wellsville, Frank held positions as president of Wellsville Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, president of Wellsville Chamber of Commerce, president of Wellsville Area United Fund and Chairman of the Budget Committee, Trustee and Chairman of the Investment Committee for Woodlawn Cemetery Association, and Chairman of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church building program. Frank was an avid golfer, trap shooter, and horseshoe pitcher for many years, becoming proficient in each sport. In 1993, he and his wife relocated to Oak Run, Ocala, Florida where he was Neighborhood 2 Representative for 10 years. He is survived by his wife, Esther Ketchner Jensen, one son, James (Marsha Young) Jensen of Orleans, MA, three daughters, Marilyn (John) Wadsworth of Rochester, NY, Karen Baylis of Ocala, FL and West Palm Beach, FL, Frances Anne Jung, of St. Paul, MN, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Kirby Jensen, in 1998. He was also predeceased by a sister and four brothers. Viewing will be on Monday, March 5, 2012 at Roberts Funeral Home, Bruce Chapel West, 6241 SW SR 200, Ocala, FL at 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Friendship Baptist Church, S.W. 105th Street, Ocala on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Randall Brown officiating. Ruby Mae Palmer (Nee Wilson), age 95, died on July 18, 2013. Ruby was born in Wellsville, N. Y. on Dec. 18, 1917, to Vera Terwilliger Wilson and DuWayne Wilson. She was the third eldest of 10 children, six brothers and three sisters. Surviving are two sisters, Gertrude Stuck of Wellsville, and Shirley Arington of Rocky River, Ohio, in addition to an extended family of nieces, nephews and their respective children. Ruby was the dear mother of Bonnie Hawver (James), Barbara Ells (Jim – deceased) and Guy Leon Palmer (deceased). She was the loving “Nana” of Guy W. and Leon Palmer who live in the Cleveland, Ohio, area and have been a constant source of joy in her life. Although Ruby was a homemaker most of her life, she went to work some years after moving to Cleveland in 1959. She began as a bookkeeper at Montgomery Wards and later took those skills into the banking industry, where she spent 15 years as a teller at Ameritrust Bank (now KeyBank). After retiring at age 65, she began a second career in volunteerism. As a member of First United Church of Christ Lakewood, Ruby spent much of her time helping with bake sales, clothing drives and community meals. She was a regular volunteer at Lakewood Christian Center where she packed bags of food and daily living supplies for the needy. When supplies were running low, Ruby was often the first to fill in the void with groceries and other much needed items. She was always helping with some project to support struggling families and those recovering from illness. When First UCC Lakewood merged with Church of the Redeemer (UCC) in Rocky River, Ruby continued to support special drives and fundraisers, even though she was no longer able to give time and energy to these causes. Whether it was needed dollars or an extra box of cereal, she was there helping. Ruby was buried at a private family ceremony at Lakewood Park Cemetery in Rocky River, Ohio, on Thursday (July 25, 2013). A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday (Aug. 6, 2013) at Church of the Redeemer in Westlake, Ohio, at 7 p,m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Redeemer, Legacy Fund, 23500 Center Ridge Road, Westlake, OH 44145.

She was born May 1, 1919 in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Henry W. and Amelia (Weihoneig) Deschler. Frances was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception School, and a 1937 graduate of Wellsville High School. She was employed at Worthington Corporation in Wellsville for 47 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member to the Worthington Corporation, Management Club and the Immaculate Conception Church, Altar and Rosary Society. She is survived by a nephew, Donald Deschler of Wellsville, and a niece, Susan (Brian) Robinson of Longs, SC, a great niece, Brieanna Sarcia, and three great nephews, Christian, Aaron, and Andrew Robinson. She was predeceased in addition to her parents, by her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and June Deschler, and her fiance` Edward Dorney, who was killed in action, at Omaha Beach on D-Day. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Merle W. Swarthout of Black Creek died January 30, 2009 at his home. Mr. Swarthout was born September 12, 1918 in Paola, Kansas and he was the son of Ward Leslie and Mary Edna Woodard, Swarthout. On July 1, 1944 in Cuba Mr. Swarthout married Elizabeth A. Wood who died on March 11, 1988, latter on June 3, 1989, in Cuba he married Barbara A. Swarthout who died on April 10, 2008. Mr. Swarthout was a 1937 graduate of Wellsville High School and New York State School of Agriculture at Alfred, majoring in Radio and Electricity. He served in the US Navy from 1941-1945 as a fighter pilot and flight instructor, he earned the American Campaign Medal, Air Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign and the WW II Victory Medal. Mr. Swarthout was a member of Our Lady of the Angels in Cuba and St. Bonaventure RCC in Allegany. He was a 64 year member and Past Commander of the Cuba America Legion, the VF 12 US Naval Aviator fighter Pilot. Mr. Swarthout was past local Director of Catholic Charities. He belonged to the Friendship Swingers Square Dance Group, Monitor Roamers, and the Holiday Ramblers Travel Club. Mr. Swarthout served on Cuba Central School Board and the Cuba Village Board. He enjoyed gardening, playing the trumpet, golfing and most of all he enjoyed traveling and camping with family. Surviving Mr. Swarthout are five children, Patricia (Melvin) Bradfuhrer of Lake View, NY., Thomas (Carianne) Swarthout of Hamburg, NY., Teresa (Roger) Shaffer of Warsaw, Ind., Mary (Timothy) Botens of Black Creek, and Michael (Evelio) Swarthout of NY, NY.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchrildren; and many nieces & nephews. Mr. Swarthout was pre-deceased by a brother – Leslie Fay Swarthout on Feb. 26, 1988. Friends will be received on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba.
