Nancy was a committed member of the Friends of the Williamson Library, Williamson Seniors and KC Park Rec Center. She loved to relax at home, read and enjoyed watching the birds.
Nancy leaves behind her loving husband of 44 years, Dave C. Vercruysse; stepson: Jason C. (Faith) Vercruysse; dear sister: Jean Marie Bianco; sister in law: Peg Gorton; loving cousin: Susan Zanders; many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her many special family members and friends.

Gary K. Jordan, 72, of Bolivar Rd, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Jones Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on May 30, 1949 in Olean the son of the late Kieth and Marie (Tyler) Jordan. In Wellsville on June 1, 1968 he married his wife of fifty-three years, Barbara (Costello) Jordan – who survives. Gary was a 1967 graduate of Wellsville High School. In 1969 he began to serve in the United State Army, where he was a combat medic serving in Vietnam, he remained with the Army until 1972. After discharging from the service, he began working for D&J Body, Worthington; and eventually he was self-employed, owning Wholesale Tire in Belmont. In his free time he enjoyed watching Jimmy Swagart; and was a member of the American Legion Post #702 in Wellsville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: a son, Matthew (Rita) Jordan; a daughter, Carrie (Kenny) Fanton; four grandchildren, Kaleb Jordan, Haylee (Trevor) Coleman, Jacob (Hannah) Fanton, and Kollin (Sara) Fanton; two great-grandchildren, Ivan Jordan and Harper Fanton; a sister, Judy (Ike) Connor; a sister-in-law, Peggy Jordan; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by: a son, Chad Jordan; and a brother, Eddy Jordan. A private graveside service will be conducted by the American Legion Post #702 with full military honors.

Gary E. Willard of 3816 Roszyk Hill Rd. died Tuesday (March 21, 2006) as a result of injuries sustained in a one car accident in the town of Humphrey. Born October 24, 1949 in Wellsville, NY he was the son of Patricia Jones Willard and Ray Willard, Sr. On November 10, 1994 in Olean, NY he married Susan V. Brown who survives. Mr. Willard was raised in Wellsville and graduated from Wellsville High School. He lived most of his life in Olean prior to moving to Machias six years ago. He served during the Vietnam War in the US Army where he received the Purple Heart. He was also the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and he received 3 Overseas Bars as well as an Expert Badge M-14. He worked for the former Bargain Center in Olean and for several years he was employed as a bartender for the Olean Elk’s Lodge and as a custodian for the Moose Club. He was a member of the Olean Elk’s Lodge, the Moose Club, the Olean American Legion and the St. Stephen’s Club. He also recently attended the Fellowship Church in Machias. Mr. Willard loved to fish, hunt and drive. He especially enjoyed helping others and in recent years he volunteered as a driver for transporting veteran patients to area hospitals and clinics. Surviving besides his wife are his mother Patricia Willard of Wellsville; his father Ray (Linda) Willard, Sr. of Canandaigua; 1 stepson Michael (Kathy) Sader of Allegany; 4 step grandchildren; 2 brothers Ray Willard, Jr. Of Newark, NY and Richard (Brenda) Willard of Lake Wales, FL; 2 daughters Barbara Miller of Middleburg, FL and Paula (Jim) Gary of Cortland, OH; 1 stepbrother Randy (Jennifer) Willard of Springwater, NY several nieces and nephews and a special aunt and uncle Bob and Jean Armstrong of Wellsville. David D. “Babe” Payne escaped this mortal realm Tuesday (March 10, 2020). He was 70.
Babe was world renowned for his “tell-it-like-it-is” attitude, his sarcastic disposition and the giant black mug that traveled the world with him. He offered charm, wit and an underlying love and loyalty to those who were his friends and family. He was an amazing person, part sinner and part saint, all bundled up into one unique package. If you were fortunate to have met him and share a drink with him, you’d have liked him immediately and would have been considered a friend. Babe was a respiratory therapist for over 30 years at Jones Memorial Hospital, where he was known to take smoke breaks on the loading dock after treating patients with breathing problems! He was a a member of the VFW, Moose and the American Legion, where he was a member of the Honor Guard. He was loyal to his bar stool every Friday. He was a 1967 graduate of Wellsville High School. He loved sports and betting (maybe betting a bit more), and was a great coach during his children’s school years. He is survived by five children, Tracy (Brian) Ruprich of Naperville, Ill., Steven (Stephanie) Payne of Sedley, Va., Joseph Payne and Frank (Amanda) Payne, of both of Wellsville and Britttany Payne of Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Ryan and Emily Ruprich, Chris Payne, Autem Payne, David Payne, Kalie Payne, Alyssa Payne and Trent Payne; a great-grandson, Kasen; two brothers, Doug (Holly) Payne of Brockport and Skip (Barb) Payne of Clearwater, Fla.; Eric Payne and Breana Payne and many more beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Dale and Virginia Liesegang Payne; a son, David Payne; two brothers, Daniel and Gary Payne; and a crazy number of dogs and cats, who will surley be waiting for him at the gates. Patricia A. Post, 69, of Wellsville, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 8, 2018 shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, NY. Born July 23, 1949, in Wellsville, she was the daughter of Howard E. and Helen I. Crandall Post. Patricia was employed by the Texas Hot in Wellsville since 1981. Affectionately known as “Patty,” she always regarded her Texas Hot co-workers and customers as extended family. A 1967 graduate of Wellsville High School, she enjoyed bowling in her youth. Patricia was warm-hearted, influential and encouraging on discussions about life and improving life experiences in the face of her own challenges. It made a positive, lasting difference with her daughter Angela’s medical education aspirations in becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. Patricia was a meaningful influence upon the mayoral campaign of James Dorsette, in 2016. Patricia placed a heartfelt value on the meaning of life throughout her years. She always knew there would be challenges that life presents and preferred to smile with a shared optimistic view. Later in life, Patricia shared her affection, giving a home to several adopted kittens. She often remarked how much she adored them because – “They make home feel more precious.” Surviving are: a daughter, Angela M. Jones of Wellsville; aunts, Linda and Sandy; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her parents. He was employed as a custodian by Wellsville Central School for 20 years. Wayne was known for being a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors. Rose-Marie A. Florentine, 68, of 56 E. State Street passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016 at Jones Memorial Hospital with her loving family at her side. She was born on February 11, 1948 in Wellsville, the daughter of John H. and Nancy (Frungillo) Ellis. On August 22, 1970 in Lackawanda she married Jack S. Florentine who survives. Rose-Marie was raised in Wellsville and was a 1967 graduate of Wellsville High School. She also graduated from Bryant & Stratton College in Buffalo. She was a well know employee at the Wellsville Veterinarian Hospital for 40 years; retiring in 2015. Rose-Marie was loved, respected and a true friend to many. Surviving in addition to her husband are three children, Bernadette (Gary) Hall of Erie, PA, John Florentine and Timothy Florentine both of Wellsville, four grandchildren, Rachael Florentine, John Florentine Jr., Camryn Hall and Cassidy Hall, a niece, Jill (Michael) Haney, a great niece, Tiffany, a great nephew, Kody. Michael A. DeMarte, age 66, of Palm Bay, Florida passed away in his home on November 24, 2015. He was born on March 24, 1949 in Wellsville to Ralph and Wilma Brundage DeMarte. Michael was a graduate of the Wellsville Central High School in 1967 and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Following the service Michael worked at Dresser Rand for a time and later moved to Palm Bay, Florida. While in Florida he worked for and retired from Harris Communication. Michael was a member of the American Legion Post #117 in Palm Bay where he served as Chaplin, post commander, and was a member of the Patriot Guard. Dennis Frederick Wightman, 66, of 2088 County Road 18, passed away on Saturday (March 21, 2015) at the Buffalo VA Medical Center following a brief Illness. He was born July 21, 1948, in Wellsville, the son of the late Frederick and Delphine (Moyer) Wightman. Dennis was a graduate of Wellsville High School and received an Associate Degree from Alfred State College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1970 to 1972. He was employed as a Bus Driver for Allegany County Transit. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, repairing cars, stock car racing and was a NASCAR fan.Surviving are three daughters, Tracy Elias of Wellsville, Terry Wightman of Rochester, Carrie (Ben) Freeling of Hornell; one son, Sgt. Richard (Mikala) Wightman of Spring Lake, N.C., son-in-law and great friend, Leo Elias of Wellsville; three grandchildren, Alex, Arianna and Jayden; two sisters, Ann Clark of Canisteo and Susie Wightman of Wellsville; one aunt, Mae Thompson of Wellsville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Eileen Alvord, 63, of 73 E. Hanover St., died Monday (March 12, 2012) in Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Wellsville on Nov. 23, 1948, the daughter of Frederick and Helen Hull Brown. She was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception School and the Wellsville High School. She had been employed for 14 years at Fay’s Drug Store in Wellsville and also worked as a CNA at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. On Nov. 13, 1999, she was married to Norman J. Alvord, who survives her. She was a life member of the Wellsville VFW Post Auxiliary, enjoyed time spent with her family and special friends, also time spent at Waneta Lake and going to the casinos. She was known for her large collection of owls. Jo Ann Clark-Farrell of 4681 Rt. 305, Cuba, New York passed away peacefully today, 9/19/2013, at the Olean General Hospital from complications associated her long and courageous battle with diabetes. She was in the company of her husband and daughter. Born on September 22nd, 1949 in Wellsville, New York, she was the daughter of Kenneth M. and Doris L. Clark. Jo Ann graduated from Wellsville Central High School with the Class of 1967. She went on to Mansfield State College to obtain here Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Graduated in 1972. Her graduate studies were completed at St. Bonaventure University and SUNY at Geneseo. On August 24th, 1974, she and her husband, Bill were united in marriage at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Wellsville, New York. In the same year, Jo Ann and her Husband began their life together Cuba, New York where they lived throughout most of their thirty-nine years of Marriage. They have one child, Holly. Jo Ann was an Elementary Teacher at the Friendship Central School for Twenty-Seven years and retired in June 2000. She was a highly creative and dedicated teacher who loved children and gave generously to help them in their journey through their education. In addition to her career, Jo Ann was a wonderful homemaker and very active mother. She loved to host all the family gatherings and did them with great flare. Jo Ann also found time to be an active member of the Cuba Community. She was a long-time member of the Cuba Hospital Auxiliary and was very active the “Show-Time” plays which were large fund-raisers for the Auxiliary. Through-out the years her contributions to Cuba Community were numerous. On March 7th. 1987, she was recognized with the Cuba Chamber of Commerce’s Community Service Award. Jo Ann and her huband, enjoyed many happy years as members of the Cuba Lake Yacht Club. Jo Ann was blessed with many friends. She loved social events and being with everyone. Being so creative, she loved to decorate the floats for the Cuba Fireman’s June Dairy Week Parade. Her more recent and unusual creations could be found in a specially built display window in front of her home. Each display included the use of mannequins in a seasonally festive setting. She was a happy person who never let her physical difficulties get in the way of living life to the fullest. She is survived by her husband Bill, daughter Holly Kunderman of Amherst, New York, two grandchildren, Cole and Kierra Kunderman and a brother Dennis Clark and his wife Adele, of Palm Springs California. She was predeceased by her parents in 2009. The family will receive friends at the Mark F. David M. Loucks, 50, of Janesville, formerly of Wellsville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Mercy Hospital, Janesville. He was born in Salamanca on Nov. 8, 1949, the son of Lester and Betty Lou (Morton) Loucks. On Dec. 22, 1984, in Craig, Iowa, he married JoAnn L. Moller, who survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, David M. Loucks, Jr., and Justin L. Karen R. Neely, 59, of 4237 Niles Hill Road, died unexpectedly Thursday (May 7, 2009) shortly after arrival at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born Jan. 12, 1950, in Wellsville, the daughter of Richard and Velma (Gleason) Neely. On July 16, 1994, in Wellsville, she married David Harkenrider, who survives. Karen was a 1967 graduate of Wellsville High School and had attended Alfred State College. She was formerly employed at Serra & Fogarty Law Office of Belmont and Adelphia in Coudersport, Pa. She was currently the chief surrogate court clerk for the state of New York Court System in Belmont. She was a member and past president of the Wellsville Woman’s Bowling Association and had been active with the Allegany County Nitros for many years. She was a former member of the Women of the Moose and was a former Lady Elk. Surviving in addition to her husband is one daughter, Melissa (Joseph) Blaicher of Memphis, Tenn.; one son, Bradley (Christina Reed) Ostrander of Wellsville; two brothers, Jerald (Linda) Neely of San Antonio, Texas and Roger Neely of Wellsville; one sister, Lynne (Kevin) Burke of Fairport; one niece and four nephews. O’Hara, Deborah M., 59, owner of the Calvin Charles Gallery, Scottsdale, peacefully passed away at her home in Scottsdale, AZ on Thursday, December 11, 2008. Deborah was born in Wellsville, NY, on March 11, 1949 the daughter of John and Bonnie O’Hara. She was a 1967 graduate of Wellsville Central High School and Mt. Ida College, in Newton Centre, MA. Deborah worked and lived in the New England area for nine years, residing in Boston, Warwick, RI and Manchester NH. It was at this time that she began to lay the foundation that would ultimately lead her to a successful career in business and as an important leadership role in the community. Deborah served in Marketing for Hastech and this position took her to many countries around the globe and fostered her love of foreign places. In 1982, she accepted a position with Gilman, a British company, and was honored to be the first American hired for their Hong Kong office. She served with them for several years before moving on to open up the first Apple computer office in Hong Kong. She later began to focus on business training and development and after gaining experience in this field; she was able to fulfill a dream and opened her own consulting business, Connective Management. Deborah lived abroad for eighteen years. In 1996 Debbie married Calvin Puckett of Hong Kong and Martha’s Vineyard. In 1998 they returned to the States and settled in Scottdale AZ. where they opened Galerie L’Asietique, an Asian art and antique gallery. Cal died suddenly in October 2002. In his honor Deborah completed Cal’s vision and dream of building the Calvin Charles Gallery on Marshall Way in Scottsdale. She established the gallery as a world reknown destination for international art. While in Hong Kong Deborah served as a Honoray Council to Kiribati (now known as Millenium Island) She also was inducted as a member of the board of directors of the American Club in Hong Kong. In Arizona, Deborah was very involved in the growth of Scottsdale and the waterfront district. She was a graduating member of the Scottsdale Leadership Council and also served on their board. She was a member of the Scottsdale Gallery Association, and the Marshall Way Art District Association. She was a Friend of the Crisis Nursery and served as a board member of the Foundation for Blind Children. Deborah’s philanthropic endeavors also included donating her gallery space for numerous charity events. Deborah is preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband Calvin Puckett. She is survived by one brother John (Olive) O’Hara, three neices, Wendy Gorham of Coudersport, Pa. Jennifer O’Hara (Chris Hackett) of Green Valley Az and Sarah O’Hara of Green Valley Az, two step daughter Julie Puckett (Antonieo Bullion) of Cambride Ma. and Jennifer (James) Newman of Ca. and four grandchildren, two great nieces and two great nephews. Dr. Adelbert J. Purga, 62, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Cape Canaveral Hospital. He was born in Wellsville, NY and came to Brevard in 1989 from Clinton, IA. He was the Vice President of Brevard Community College and President of Palm Bay Community College. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Margaret; son, Jonathan; cousin and lifelong friend, Nickolas DiCerbo and his wife Ann; numerous neces, nephews, and family. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Susan and Adelbert Purga. Besides being Administrator of several colleges, he was a consultant for many other colleges around the country as a member and leader of the Council for Academic Accreditation of Community Colleges. He was widely published in his field of higher education and received numerous accolades in his professional capacity. Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 6:30 pm, Monday, August 13, 2012. A short celebration of life from 6:30 to 7:00 pm at Wylie-Baxley Merritt Island Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 14th at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Merritt Island, to celebrate his life. Stephen J. Reynolds, 62, died peacefully in his sleep while in his home on July 21, 2011. Born on Aug. 20, 1948, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he was proudly adopted two days later by Martin E. Reynolds and Felicia Serio Reynolds and grew up and lived in Wellsville. He graduated from Wellsville High School in 1967 and went on to attend Alfred Ag-Tech College. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in August 1968 and served until July 1971 in Germany and attained the rank of sergeant. Stephen came to Florida and worked as a plumber and was later hired by Lee County, where he obtained his Class A water treatment operator’s license. He then attended the Fort Myers Criminal Justice Academy and became a certified corrections officer and worked for Hendry Correctional Institution, the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office and the Moore Haven Correctional Facility. He was also an auxiliary deputy for Hendry County and proud to be a member of the Dana Weekly American Legion Post #130 in LaBelle, Fla. He is survived by his wife, Tricia K. Reynolds of LaBelle, Fla.; sons, John Thomas (Mary) Reynolds of Lehigh, and Nicholas Alan (Julie) Reynolds of LaBelle, Fla.; his sister, Ursula (Brian) Reynolds Gray of Wellsville; his ex-wife, Janet K. Reynolds of Lehigh, Fla.; several nephews and a niece; his wife’s parents, Karl and Beverly Wendorf of Port Orange, Fla.; as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his father, Martin Reynolds, in February 1987, and his mother, Felicia Reynolds, in October 1996. Arrangements for cremation have been made by the Akin-Davis Funeral Home of LaBelle, Fla. The family suggests that any memorials be made in the form of a contribution to the charity of the donor’s choice. A memorial service will be held on Stephen’s birthday, Aug. 20, 2011, at the American Legion Post, LaBelle, Fla., at 10:30 a.m. and a luncheon will follow. Please come to help celebrate his life!

Mr. Donald L. Simpson, 60, of La Porte, Indiana, died Friday July 30, 2010 at Golden Living Center Fountainview in La Porte, IN. He was born August 24, 1949 in Wellsville, New York, the son of Charles W. Simpson and Mabel (Wilcox) Simpson. Donald was a Captain in the Salvation Army for 3 years before moving to La Porte in 1973. He worked as a Truck Driver for over 30 years and retired from Lay Trucking Co. in 2002. He was a member of LaGrange, IN Jaycees and the Scipio Township Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and had a good time making people laugh. On June 29, 1974, in La Porte, IN, he married Deborah S. Stearns Simpson who survives. He is also survived by his sister – Sue (Dick) Evans of Ft. Wayne, IN; brother – Wesley (Sharon) Simpson of LaGrange, IN; many nieces and nephews; and he had the honorary title of Dad with many young adults in the Northern Indiana area. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Charles Simpson. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Tuesday, August 3, 2010 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm & 6:00 – 8:00 pm & Wednesday, August 4, 2010 from 10:00 am until time of the service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday August 4, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scipio Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Dennis L. Winship, 63, of 3186 Route 417 died on Monday, January 9, 2012 at home. He was born March 13, 1948 in Wellsville the son of the late George R. and Viola (Chapel) Winship. He was a 1967 graduate of Wellsville High School, received an Associate Degree from Alfred State College, a Bachelor of Science Degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Alfred University. Dennis was formerly employed Jones Memorial Hospital, Harris Supply Company, the Wellsville County Club and Kerton’s Florist & Greenhouse. He is survived by three brothers, Caryl Winship of Olean, Martin Winship of Allegany and Roger Winship of Ogdensburg, two sisters, Georgia Winship of Little Genesee and Roberta Hall of Nottingham, PA as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. At Dennis’s request there will be no visitation or funeral. Memorial donations may be made to the David A. Howe Public Library.
