“Recently, I experienced one of those “small world” events. My husband, Rupert, and I have just moved to a senior apartment in Springfield, Massachusetts. As part of my “getting to know you” page, I mentioned that my Mariner Girl Scout troop had enjoyed a week in 1952 sailing Long Island Sound on the brigantine ”Yankee.” Shortly after, another resident came to me and said “Captain Johnson was my uncle.” This unlocked a flood of memories and has promoted further conversations with him. I found this photograph of Wellsville’s “land-locked sailors” and was dismayed to be able to identify only a few of my crew mates. Can anyone help? Marian Jacobs Brook, Class of ‘53”
