Recognized as one of the greatest golfers in Wellsville school history.

He won the Section V Championship in golf in 1990 and the Wellsville Men’s Club Championship in 1989.

In the New York State Junior Golf Championships he had two top ten finishes.

His best was a second in 1988. He became the Corning Classic Junior Champion in 1988 as well as the Buffalo District Match and Stroke Play Champion in 1989.

A life of golf paid off as he was rewarded with a NAIA Scholarship by the University of Charleston.

Won the Section V Tennis Crown in 1989.

Her high school tennis record for the regular season was an amazing 55-0 in singles competition

In her high school varsity career the teams she played on had a combined record of 2311-31. Along the way she earned 16 varsity letters.

Captain of The University of Maryland Tennis Team; Playing #2 singles and #1 doubles while excelling in the classroom with a 3.76 average in chemical engineering

Only the second player in school history to score over a thousand career points in boys basketball – 1012 points.

With his speed he simply dominated games in the sports of basketball and baseball. In 1990 he was chosen as a first team member of the Spectator Great 8 Basketball Team.

In baseball he had a lifetime batting average of .360 and once held the school record for stolen bases and doubles in a season.

Played on two Section V championship teams: 1987 & 1990. In the sport of basketball he averaged over 20 points a game for his junior and senior years.

He is recognized as being one of the best guards in high school history.

Scored over 1000 points and had over 1000 rebounds in her high school basketball career

In her senior year she was selected Section V Class B MVP as well as chosen to play in the Ronald McDonald All Star Game.

Attended Keuka College on a basketball scholarship where she scored 1557 points and had 927 rebounds in her career

Currently is the head girl’s basketball coach at Keuka College

He was chosen as a first team all star in three different sports in school: football, baseball, & wrestling.

In his senior year he was selected to the All Greater Rochester 2nd team as a defensive back in football.

In 1991 he was voted the Sid Miles award as the top male athlete in the school.

He is recognized as one of the best catchers of all time in Wellsville school history playing on two Section V championship baseball teams: 1990 & 1991

In college he went on to be a 3 year starter in football at Alfred University where he had a brilliant career.

She has been on more Section V championship teams than any athlete in school history with 7; 5 in volleyball, 2 in basketball.

Was honored with Section V Class B MVP Awards in Volleyball.

She was selected 4 times as a member of the Section V Volleyball Team.

She was chosen as team captain her senior year in volleyball and basketball.

Went on to play two years of volleyball at Buffalo State.

 


 

 

Bob WeigandBob WeigandClass: 1987-1991

College: Mansfield & Boston University

During his broadcasting career he has covered a wide variety of sporting events for NBC and ABC sports including many Monday Night football games.

In 1995 he won his first Emmy Award for NBC with his coverage of the NYC Marathon.

In 1998 he won his second Emmy Award for his coverage of the NBC Golf Tour – Best Live Sports Series.

He has covered three World Olympics for NBC. His work included the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, the Winter Games in Sydney, Austrailia, and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Will always be remembered for the play in the last inning to preserve the 1990 sectional finals by a one run margin

Was chosen as an Expressway Conference All Star in baseball for 3 years and in football, as a running back for 2 years

In 1992 he was awarded the Sid Miles Award as the High School’s Top Male Athlete.

Played on four straight sectional championship baseball teams…something no other male athlete has ever done

Accepted a basketball scholarship to Baldwin Wallace where he played for four years, including two trips to the NCAA National Championship Tournament

She is recognized as one of the best distance runners in track in Wellsville High School history.

In 1993 she set school records in the 1500 meter and 800 meter runs.

These are records that still exist today. She was an integral part of 3 Section V championship teams: one in girls basketball – 1991 and two in track – 1992 & 1993.

She qualified twice in the New York State Championship Meet for track in the 800 meter run.

In cross country she was an exceptional runner winning several meets as well as setting the Wellsville course record.

She led by example, and her work habits were second to none.

Scored the winning goal in soccer on the only Section V championship team in the history of Wellsville (1993)

Played baseball at Ithaca College where he was selected as an All State Player for three years

He is currently listed in the top 10 at Ithaca College for most homeruns in a season and for his career.
Was a starter on three Northeastern Collegiate Baseball League championship teams playing for the Hornell Dodgers and Ithaca Lakers

Was the starting goalie and Section V MVP on the 1993 Section V Boys Soccer Championship Team

At one time he held the school record as a soccer goalie for the single season and career marks in shutouts and goals against average.

In 1994 he made the All Greater Rochester 1st Team in boys soccer.

In 1994 he was chosen for the Sid Miles Award as the school’s best male athlete.

In baseball he was recognized as one of the all time great catchers in high school history.

He won a total of 3 Section V Championships, 2 in baseball, 1992 & 1993; and 1 in soccer in 1993.

Tonia was a starter on the only girls volleyball N.Y. State Championship Team in 1994

In basketball she had an excellent high school career finishing with 1230 points as well as being a dominating rebounder under the boards.

In her senior year in basketball she was chosen to the Spectator Great Eight All Star Team as well as a member of the Ronald McDonald All Star Game.

In basketball she was a participant on the AAU National Jr. Olympic Traveling Team of Western New York where they competed at the Nationals in Cleveland and the Junior Nationals in Washington, D.C.

At Alfred University she was a two-year starter for the women’s basketball team having an excellent career for the Saxons.

Recognized as a great athlete he became an all star in football, basketball, and baseball.

Currently holds 7 Wellsville High School records in baseball. His 27 wins as a pitcher may never be broken.

Selected as a member of the Big 30 All Star Football Team his senior year, and was the starting quarterback at the Don Raabe Classic in 1995.

Holds two Section V records in baseball: Most RBI’s one season with 53 and most games pitched in one season – 19.

In basketball he was selected to the 2nd team of the Wellsville Reporter Great 8 Team.

She was recognized for her outstanding speed and simply dominating games with her base running ability.

She once held the high school stolen base record which stood for several years.

She was chosen to the 1st Team Expressway Conference All Star Team her junior and senior years.

In college at Cobleskill she was chosen as the most valuable offensive player on the softball team for two years in a row.

Also at Cobleskill she was the most valuable defensive player on the women’s basketball team for one year.

She was chosen as a captain on three teams her senior year. Enthusiasm, leadership, and work-ethic were her trademarks.

Was the starting goalie on the high schools only sectional soccer championship team in 1993 and the starting second basemen on two sectional softball championship teams in 1994 and 1995.

In softball she currently holds school records in homeruns for a season with 6 and career with 14.

At Gannon University she went on to be their very first All American in softball.

She continues to be a leader of young people as she takes her many skills to the coaching level at Wellsville High School.

Chosen as the Section V Tournament M.V.P. in softball where she went a perfect 9-0 as a pitcher

In 1995 she was chosen as the New York State Player of the Year in softball as possibly the most dominant pitcher in the entire state.

At Messiah College she had a brilliant career winning 65 games and was chosen as an All American for 3 consecutive years.

She not only excelled on the softball field at Messiah, but in the classroom as well earning Academic All-American Honors her senior year.

Currently holds the career record for Wellsville High School in kills with 373.

While in high school she was a star player for the Junior Olympics Club Volleyball Team out of Rochester.

She was chosen captain and co-captain of her high school volleyball teams her junior and senior years.

In 1996 while at Genesee Community College she was chosen Division I Player of the Year in Volleyball in Region 3.

In 1996 and 1997 she was chosen as a Junior College All American in girls volleyball at Genesee Community College.

She was the starting point guard on the 1997 Section V Girls Basketball Championship Team. Record: 20 – 4 h

In soccer she was recognized for her tenacious style of play at the midfield where she often controlled the tempo of the game.

Currently she holds 3 school records in track and field: long jump, triple jump, & 400 meter relays.

In 1996 she won three Section V championships in track and field all in the same day, an accomplishment that may never be broken.

She currently holds two school records as a member of the 400 meter and 1600 meter relay teams.

She was chosen at the Expressway Conference MVP in 1997 for track & field.

Competed at the NYS Track and Field Championships for two consecutive years. In 1996 she took 6th in the 400 relay and in 1997 she took 4th in the 200 and 5th in the 100 meter sprints.

She won 6 team sectional titles in track and field (’95, ’96, & ’97) and volleyball (’94, ’95, & ’96). She was also a member of the 1994 State Volleyball Champions.

In softball this left-handed pitcher was named N.Y. State Class C Player of the Year her senior year.

Received a Division I scholarship to play basketball at George Mason University.

Played 4 years at GMU averaging 4.8 points and 3.1 rebounds her senior year>

Recognized by many as the most dominate female athlete to ever play for the Lions.

In 1998 he was described by the Chicago Cubs scout as being the best defensive catcher in the Eastern Zone of the United States. He was the starting catcher on two Section V championship teams in 1996 and 1998. In 1998 he was the sectional MVP in Class B. In 1997 and 1998 he was selected 1st Team All-State as a catcher. In 1997 he was the starting catcher on the Western Team that won a silver medal at the Empire State Games. In his senior year he was given the Sid Miles Award as the school’s top male athlete. In 1998 he was chosen to play in the Don Raabe Big 30 Football Classic.

Played on the only Wellsville volleyball team that won a state title in 1994.

Member of the Section V championship teams in track in 1994 and 1995.

Played on the Gold Medal Volleyball Team at the Empire State Games in 1998.

In 2001 she was the University Athletic Association Conference Volleyball Player of the year.

Went on to be a Division III volleyball All-American in college in 2001 and 2002.

In 2003 she was honored as the NCAA Woman of the Year for the state of Pennsylvania.
